Lexmark Indy 300
Racers in the Lexmark Indy 300 are set to roar around the challenging Surfers Paradise street circuit once again. The Indy grows bigger and more exciting each year, having developed into Queensland's number one tourism, sporting and entertainment event.
GMC Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix
If you love motorbikes and spectacular locations, get yourself down to beautiful Phillip Island, a two-hour drive from Melbourne. It is a natural wonderland, popular for its penguin colonies as well as its Motorcyle Grand Prix. Here, you'll get to see three world championships all in one place - the 125cc, the 250cc and the 500cc. The Phillip Island track is known as one of the fastest in the world. It's a premier event on the international motorcycle calendar.
Australian Open
No competition in Australia is watched more keenly than the Australian Open, played at Melbourne Park each January. The event is one of four tennis Grand Slam events in the world, the others being Wimbledon and the French and US Opens.
Melbourne Cup
Known as "the race that all Australia stops for", the Melbourne Cup is held on the first Tuesday in November. It was first run in 1861 (receiving very little publicity) and has since grown into the biggest all-age handicap in the world.
Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gra
The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade is a rambunctious display of humour, elegance, outrage and satire. The biggest spectacle in Australia (and the world's most famous display of gay and lesbian pride) marches through the streets of Sydney, with over 6,000 participants and half a million spectators.
Melbourne International Film Festival
For half a century in cinema, the Melbourne International Film Festival has been an ambassador for film to Melburnians. Now the largest film festival in the southern hemisphere, the event attracts more than 150,000 to its 19 day film extravaganza.
Melbourne International Comedy Festival
The Melbourne International Comedy Festival draws a big audience and has it rolling in the aisles. The popular annual arts festival presents a high-profile line-up of stand-up comedy, cabaret, theatre, live radio broadcasts, television, music, a Comedy Short Film Festival, outdoor entertainment, visual art exhibitions and a Kids' Comedy Festival.
Perth International Arts Festival
Western Australia's premier cultural event, the festival features performances from all areas of the artistic spectrum, as well as offering a comprehensive world cinema program. It has developed a worldwide reputation for innovative development. Held in February each year.
